Local Transportation
The city has an extensive network of buses, trams, and three metro lines (A, B, and C). Tickets cost €1.50 and are valid for 90 minutes across all modes of transport (bus, tram, metro, and city trains). You can buy tickets at metro stations, tobacco shops (“tabaccaio”), and newsstands, or simply tap your contactless credit card on board or at the metro gate.
Pro tip: public transport is not always punctual. Buses and metro trains may have delays of 15–20 minutes, so plan accordingly and allow extra time when traveling. Bonus tip: download the Moovit or Roma Mobilità app to check real-time arrival times for buses and metro trains.
Bus and subway
Rome has 3 subway lines (A–B–C) and several bus routes covering almost all parts of Rome and its suburbs. A single ticket costs 1,50 € and it is valid 100 minutes after validation.
