Conference icebreaker

The welcome cocktail is an occasion for all participants to meet and interact, while enjoying local appetisers and musical entertainment. It will be held at the Conference venue, the Department of Economics, Sapienza University of Rome.

Conference dinner

Friday, June 05, 2026 – 20:00

The Conference Dinner will be organised at the restaurant La Limonaia, a bright, welcoming space with a splendid view of the Villa Torlonia theatre. The cuisine is traditional Italian, featuring classic dishes reinterpreted using only local, high-quality ingredients. Originally designed as a citrus grove and flower greenhouse, it has now been meticulously restored, offering guests an unmistakable atmosphere of authentic refinement.

Junior Social Event

The ESCAN Junior Social Event is an informal meeting in the evening dedicated to Master students, PhD candidates, and early post-doctoral researchers. It will give junior researchers the opportunity to connect and do networking while having fun in a nice location within the historical neighbourhood of San Lorenzo.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 4th at 19:30 at The Apartment (Via dei Marrucini 1A, Rome).

Join us for an aperitif buffet in a relaxed setting designed to foster social exchange, new connections, and community building among early-career researchers within ESCAN. Some surprising activity awaits you!

Mysteries and Crimes in the Roman Night and Typical Dinner

Tour ends at: Pizzeria La Montecarlo (Vicolo Savelli, 13, 00186 Roma)

Accompanied walk and guided visit through Rione Sant’Angelo between the Roman Empire and Late Antiquity. The itinerary includes a visit to the Tiber Island, the Theater of Marcellus, the Portico d’Ottavia, and a visit to the Balbi Crypt.

The Balbi Crypt, a unique and original history of a Roman city block. In this unique micro-environment, the intermingling of the subsoil and the fabric of the structures surrounding it have created an uninterrupted narrative of the history of a city block in the centre of Rome. The Crypta Balbi is one of a small number of museums in the world that can boast of its origins as a planned research activity involving all fields of knowledge.

Roman theaters

Tour ends at: Ristorante Pancrazio dal 1922 (P.zza del Biscione, 92, 00186 Roma)

The tour follows an expert guide through three iconic ancient venues: the Theatre of Marcellus, the Theatre of Balbo, and the remains of Pompey’s Theatre. Participants walk between sites while learning about their architecture, civic functions, and role in Rome’s cultural life. The experience concludes with a typical dinner featuring regional dishes.
